If you think doing a 30 day clean eating reset is all about weight loss, you may be missing the point. Here are 5 reasons to start the next decade with a nutritional cleanse that have nothing to do with weight loss.
1. Mood
Your gut is your second brain. Like almost literally your second brain. It is the only other organ in the body that has its own nervous system. It is made of the same embryonic tissue as the brain and the two communicate with each other constantly. 95% of your serotonin, a neurotransmitter in your body responsible for your mood, is produced by the gut. Do you suffer from mood swings, depression, anxiety, ADHD? Heal your gut and you can positively impact the way you feel.
2. Skin
Skin conditions like acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, or unexplained rashes, can originate in the gut. Your skin is your largest elimination organ (think sweat) and your body uses your skin to eliminate the toxins that have entered your body through the food you eat and drink, the air you breathe, the products you use on your body and hair, and even your thoughts! 3. Immune System
60% of your immune system is contained in the gut. 60%! Keep your gut healthy by taking a daily probiotic and eating a diet rich in gut friendly foods and it will keep you healthy!
4. Inflammation
The lining of your gut is supposed to absorb nutrients and keep toxins and bacteria out. It is kept in balance by a nutrient-dense diet that contains essential fats (think Omega-3s), proteins (think fish, chicken, beans, nuts, seeds), carbohydrates (think plant foods), vitamins and minerals. If that lining is compromised, inflammation sets in. That inflammation can lead to systemic issues including inflammation of the brain and chronic disease.

At the end of the day, we don’t lose weight and get healthy. We get healthy and the weight comes off. You said you would take care of yourself. You said you were going to start eating better.
