In my essential oil world, I talk to all kinds of people around the world who want to use essential oils and oil infused products to support their wellness…
- Concerned moms who want to take care of their children with the healing power of plants.
- Families who want to ditch the synthetic fragrances in scented candles, room sprays and laundry products.
- Exercise enthusiasts who want to support performance and their muscles and joints naturally.
- Busy executives who want to manage stress and occasional anxiety naturally.
- And the list goes on and on.
I believe everyone can benefit from oils if one is ready to commit to making healthy changes in their lives.
I have spent the last 6 years educating and empowering people via my blog on making all types of healthy changes…real food, gut health, mindset work, getting toxins out of the home…meeting people where they are at and helping them make the changes they are ready to make.
Recently, I have been chatting with 3 different realtor friends from Women Belong: Dawn Sullivan, Jill Esko and Jill Brotman about oils and it got me thinking. How can real estate agents best use oils in their lives?
Here are a few…
PERSONAL HEALTH
Real estate agents are people first, right? They get run down, suffer from digestion issues, breathing issues, etc just like the rest of us.
My family uses oils to support all of our bodily systems and clearly, so can real estate agents!
Immune support – Diffuse blends like Thieves to clean the air (and you get the benefit breathing in the air too!). Add a drop of Thieves to honey and add to tea. Use an immune support roll on daily.
Respiratory support – Diffuse Eucalyptus blends to help clear up breathing. Make a roll on and roll on chest and sinuses. Add a drop to diffuser jewelry to help with breathing all day.
Digestive support – I imagine real estate agents rush from showing to showing, client to client and often are eating in the car and on the go….which can wreak havoc on digestion. Using digestive supporting oils like Peppermint, Ginger, DiGize blend can be a lifesaver. Adding a drop to water, rubbing on stomach, dripping under the tongue…all can help settle digestion.
FOCUS AND PRODUCTIVITY
Diffusing oils that support focus and concentration can be key for all of us busy working women!
Add oils like Rosemary, Lemon, Frankincense and Peppermint to a diffuser. Young Living has blends like Clarity and Brain Power that are very helpful and make a difference.
On the go? Add oils to a cotton ball and keep in your pocket and inhale as needed. Stick cotton ball in air vent in car for a quick make shift diffuser!
Make a roll on and roll on base of skull and temples. Here is a favorite recipe of mine – Focus Roll On.
There are so many oils that can help bring balance and focus to your brain.
STRESS
Life and work get stressful for all of us. Real estate agents are no different. Running from client to client. Closing to closing. Open house to open house.
Essential oils have a powerful effect on emotions and mood. Diffusing and applying oils topically can be incredibly helpful for stress.
My favorite go to oils are Lavender, Orange and Cedarwood or Spruce. Young Living also has two great blends, Stress Away and Tranquil that come in ready to go roll ons that are easy to roll on your wrists and neck, inhale and be ready for the rest of your day.
I love diffusing any of the ‘big trees’ – like Cedarwood, Spruce, Cypress, Pine, Fir. If you think of big trees having deep roots you will always remember that ‘big tree’ oils are great for grounding. I can literally feel my brain unwind when I pop a big tree oil in my diffuser.
I have a variety of tips to help my clients manage stress, essential oils being just one of them. You can learn more of those techniques here.
ROOM SPRAYS
I know when I was looking at homes years ago, some houses just had a funky smell. While sometimes the entire house needs to be cleaned from top to bottom, carrying a small spray bottle of an all natural, non toxic room spray can be helpful to clean up the air before a showing!
One of my favorite recipes is this DIY spray. It smells amazing and really kills odors. The recipe is for a 16 ounce bottle so just adjust the concentrations for a small purse sized bottle.
All Natural ‘Lysol’ Spray
- Fill a 16oz glass spray bottle most of the way with cheap vodka then add
- 30 drops Tea Tree
- 15 drops Lemon
- 15 drops Lavender
- 15 drops Eucalyptus
CLIENT GIFTS
There are all kinds of ideas for client gifts but adding some essential oils or oil infused cleaners and home products, hand soap and lotion would be a delightful idea!
I have seen people use a gift basket of a bottle of wine, gift cards to local stores, candles, etc. Why not add some oily goodness?
Some ideas for add ons (of course depends on amount spent on the client!) would be:
- bottle of all natural, plant based Thieves cleaner
- non-toxic foaming hand soaps
- essential oil infused lotions
- diffuser with a couple of favorite oils
- wool dryer balls and a bottle of lemongrass or lavender
- the options are endless and could be tailored to the clients’ interests if desired.
CREATING AN INVITING ENVIRONMENT
Diffuse pure essential oils for showings and open houses. Citrus oils like orange, grapefruit and bergamot would be a great choice.
When people connect an aroma with a joyful life event, this impact may become a secret ingredient that helps the home sell!
Dr. Megan Thornton, a lecturer in food science at Deakin University acknowledges the past belief of baking cookies or doing a Sunday roast as the scent to sell, but “today’s research is showing the simple, subtle scents are most effective. These aromas have to be ambient in that you do not notice them; they are in the background gently awakening simple, clean type memories.”
Consider how a faint scent may impact a prospective deal.
What we smell has a POWERFUL effect on our brain – particularly our memories and emotions. Utilizing the amazing complexity and sensitivity of the olfactory system by exposing it to pure, high quality essential oils can have profound benefits both personally and for your potential buyers.
Steer clear of synthetic fragrances as the term ‘fragrance’ can contain hundreds of chemicals that are not labelled or disclosed. Pure essential oils are distilled from the plants themselves. Most people who are ‘sensitive to fragrance’ are actually sensitive to the synthetic fragrances…not pure essential oils.
These are just a few ideas for real estate agents! What ideas do you have?
*Please note, I do mention ingesting essential oils. If you choose to do that, please be sure your oils are labelled as safe to ingest. This is one of the many reasons I use Young Living…their Seed to Seal guarantee helps me be sure I am getting the top quality and therapeutic benefit. I have visited 4 of their farms around the world, most recently this fall spending a week at Young Living’s farm in Ecuador, and seeing the integrity and attention to detail in person is nothing short of life changing.
