It’s a bird, it’s a plane.  No.  It’s candida overgrowth.

For me, the bird was unexplainable anxiety, and the plane was depression.  All along, for 26 years, a welcome gut fungus called candida had overgrown and caused an “unexplainable” ruckus inside my body.

After over 10 years of searching for a solution for my debilitating exhaustion, anxiety, and depression I finally realized that I had a deeper issue that was causing it all, I had an overgrowth of candida fungus in my gut.  In fact, I was told that it was all throughout my digestive tract.  I was shocked, I had never had a yeast infection, I don’t have nail fungus or athlete’s foot.  My symptoms did not indicate yeast and it all felt totally unrelated to my gut!  How could my dandruff and cradle cap be healed through my belly?  Up until then, I had had only one diagnosis of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) when I was 16, otherwise no gut related issues as far as I could tell.

Now, I hear you, gut health and Candida are “hot” topics right now.  But for me, there was something missing.  Everything I read told me that I needed to rid my body of the destructive candida.  In reality though, we just need to calm it down.  They don’t tell you that!  Through my process I learned that candida is essential and in general, the healing process is learning to work WITH the body, rather than fight against it.

I did cleanse after cleanse (the shake and supplement type), just to head back to the same old, exhausted, addicted, and shame-filled life.

Through my continued search for understanding and learning, I discovered that while food is very important, it is only one piece of the puzzle towards grace.  Yes, grace, that’s what I’m looking for.  When it feels like my life is literally throwing shit in my face, I want to show up with grace, not throwing a tantrum full of anger and rage.  Did you know that anger and rage are the underlying emotions of a candida overgrowth??  No one tells you that either.

Another thing they leave out is that your body has an innate desire and capacity for great balance, health and well-being, and that grace is your birth right.

There is only one path to grace for you, a path you can find, a path you can hop on, and a path you can stay on. Step number one is to cloak your mind with gratitude and then look for the path from there.  One thing is for sure, you will never find your path to grace coming from anger and rage.

Calming candida is about learning to live from the inside out, rather than the outside in.  Calming your inner fire and sadness is finding your still point of acceptance and sitting there gracefully allowing the hurricane of life to swirl on around you.
