It was a dismal, gray day in a dismal, gray waiting room in 1992. I had amused myself by imagining all of the ways I could improve that mind-numbing space. As if by magic, I was drawn to a New Age magazine on the top of a pile of very old Golf Digests. An article entitled “Feng Shui: the Power of Place” caught my eye. In the short time that it took me to devour the story, I knew that embracing this ancient system that emphazizes nature, beauty, comfort and sovereignty was just what I was looking for. And needed!
After training with Feng Shui Masters and practicing Feng Shui in my own home (and in friends’ and families’ homes), I felt my life ease up and simplify. I created space ( de-cluttered), learned the potential for my home to inspire and nourish me and my family, and realized that I was my home’s curator. I am now more discerning of what comes into our home. I have more awareness of how marketing and advertising influence me and I pay attention to impulse shopping habits and scrutinize toxic cleaning supplies and foods.
Feng Shui works because it takes you to the root of causation. Is your home filled with unused or broken items, closets and drawers that are disorganized, stuff that you just don’t know what to do with or does it simply not reflect who you truly are and wish to become? Do you keep things out of fear that you “might need them someday”? Are you harboring family heirlooms that you don’t want or even like? Do you feel guilty for wanting to re-home them? (This was me). Do you have “verification junk” (items that “prove” you did something “important”? (report cards from grammar school, trophies, loveletters, old textbooks/yearbooks, 100’s of photographs of places/people you don’t remember? (Also me). How about gifts you’ve been given over the years, that you feel you should be grateful for and yet have clogged up your space for a long time because you dread finding out the the person who gave it you doesn’t see it hanging on your wall? The list goes on, and keeping these types of things isn’t wrong or bad, but it is your choice. Sometimes it’s as simple as recognizing that one piece of furniture or artwork that you “paid good money for” just doesn’t work for you any more? (This happens a lot!)
Every. Single. Thing. under your roof is having an impact (sometimes very small, sometimes huge) on your life.
Here’s what Julia B, Evanston, IL says:
“I’ve known Lyn since 2009. Since that time I have lived in 2 different spaces and been growing my business as a landscape designer and project manager, installer. Lyn has assisted me in organizing both my home and business spaces to support the growth of good energy or Chi in my personal and professional life.
In 2019, I felt ready to really give my business another chance to have others work with me and expand its prosperity. Lyn came in and with several loving nudges helped me clear the room of anything that was not in service to my business and its success. (Like my mother’s wedding dress which I was saving for my daughter!)
After the deed was done, my business took off like a rocket! In the last 3 years I have doubled my billings every year. If you choose to take this stuff seriously, be ready, because the changes, they will come. I am so grateful. Thanks Lyn!”
